Boo to You!

Happy Halloween, my Friends!

Sooo much to do today -- going to the BSU football game, then the fam is coming over for a lil' party, and then of course taking the kids out for a little trick-or-treating. They got so much candy at my office Halloween thing so they'll probably only end up going around the block here instead of being out for hours.

Before I forget, I have to tell you what happened at my daughter's Halloween party at school. So I was waiting for the room mom to call me and no one ever did. So, since the room mom for my son's class called and I was already making goodie bags, I just went ahead and made them for K's class too. I get to the class for the party and I set my box down. I see this lady kinda setting things out and I ask if she knows who the room mom is. She says "well, I'M in charge of this party." And I'm like "oh, OK, because I was waiting for someone to call and no one did and..." and she says "right. That's because I'M IN CHARGE OF THIS PARTY" Whoa. So I say "oh OK, well I brought goodie bags...." she says "GOODIE BAGS?? - we don't NEED goodie bags. We are having a SMALL party and we don't need THAT STUFF."
Danni suggested I send her a thank-you card to show her how kindness works - - and also make her a goodie bag - ha!

Today I'm sharing a lil' card and matching treat I made for my kids. No stamping, just super quick, easy and cute enough.
I had some odd-size scraps of some linen vellum cardstock, so I made those into some shorter cards. I also used scraps I had of My Mind's Eye's Boo to You! paper and used the title from the edge of the paper to serve as my sentiment.

HalloweenPixieSet2_10_05_09

I used a Martha Stewart BOO punch on some coordinating MME paper and tied it around some orange Pixy Stix with some ribbon and crochet thread and I was good to go.

HalloweenPixieSet3_10_05_09

And here's my lil' set of 2 cards and 2 treats. It doesn't have to take hours or cost you a lot of money to do a lil' sum-sum for the kiddies!

Hope your Halloween is F-U-N!

Breast Cancer Awareness Blog Hop(e)

Hello and thank you for stopping in today along
the Breast Cancer Awareness Blog Hop(e).

I have to be honest: I have not been personally effected by breast cancer. No one in my family has had it, and I really haven't had anyone close be afflicted by it either. I suppose I am fortunate that way. However, I had the good fortune of meeting a nice lady named Vickie over at SCS and her attitude of "surviving breast cancer again" really got me thinking....inspired me even. So I started this Blog Hop(e) to recognize the brave women who have battled and won against this disease, the brave women who sadly didn't make it, and those who are going through it or have been touched going through that journey with someone near and dear to them - - my heart goes out to you all.

With that, I have a card made special just for the occasion. On a piece of Papertrey Ink cardstock, I used some old Cosmo Cricket patterned papers because I just loved the comforting feeling of the quilted patterns in Honey Pie. I added a Jenni Bowlin bingo card that says LUCKY, some stitching, a Zva Creative shooting star, and finished it off with some Papertrey ribbon & button.

BreastCancerBlogHope_10_29_09

Next you're off to the amazing Tiffany Johnson's blog to see what she created special for the occasion. If you get lost along the way, you can go here for the complete list of all 26 women who are participating in this wonderful Blog Hop(e) today.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Paper Temptress Anniversary ~ Treasure Hunt!

Happy Anniversary, Paper Temptress!

Hello and thank you for stopping in along the Paper Temptress one-year anniversary Treasure Hunt. Each design team members' blog along the way has a letter that you need to put together a word. My letter is perfect for me, it's a little out there and a little non-conformist for I have the....
! - - yes, that's an exclamation point - LOL

For all the contest details and where you can go back to and get in on the Hunt, head on over the the Paper Temptress Blog.

My card today features papers from Paper Temptress: kraft cardstock, Green Crepe Ruche, and White Felt Grandee. The Ruche makes the most gorgeous rustic natural really out-in-the-forest kinda Christmas tree! And the thickness and texture in the Grandee makes some amazing snow.

PT_BlogHop_10_29_09

As an aside, I have to tell you, the Paper Temptress design team was my very first design team that I was chosen to be on. It's been quite the challenge for me because as most of you know, I am big on patterned paper since I don't color images - so I really need lots of distractions that patterned paper provides. Patricia (the Paper Temptress herself) even asked me one time "then why do you want to be on my design team?" - LOL It's really been a good time, really stretching me as an "artist" and testing my limits: which is a good thing. Not to mention the fact that she's got some very unique, affordable, and beautiful papers that you can't find anywhere else!
So congratulations, Patricia - - and thanks for a great year!

Have a merry one.

Here's a fun lil' card I made for the new Studio G challenge this week. This was a sketch challenge (that I made) which I ended up being pretty cool with. I tried the faux stitching thing under my sentiment and, yeah, I don't have a steady hand that way so we're gonna be goin' back to real stitching next time *wink*

My sentiment is from this year's Studio G Christmas stamps plus I've got some Crystal Ice Glittered Skittles in the centers of my snowflakes. Patterned papers are BasicGrey's Eskimo Kisses; cardstock, ink and ribbon are Papertrey Ink.

I actually like this card or the sketch, or both and am thinking I might mass produce *gasp* some of these for my mom to send out for Christmas this year.

1-2-3 Celebrate!

This week over at Jacksonbelle Embellishments we've got a 1-2-3 challenge which I'm not sure if I did it right or not - LOL 1 stamp (got that part), 2 embellishments (not sure) and 3 layers (think I'm OK here). I'm counting my green ric-rack and my button as my 2 embellishments, but of course I needed the thread to tie my button on...and I think some hardcore rule people would question if my stitching would be an embellishment or not. I would say not - but I could be biased - ha.

So yeah - more Making Memories Mistletoe paper (I think you get by now how much love I've got for this line!), some felt ric-rack, a big ol' button from my stash and a sentiment. Pretty straightforward but I like the end product for sure.

JBE_Celebrate_10_27_09

Be sure and head over to the JBE blog and see what the rest of the DT did with this 1-2-3 challenge this week.

Happy day to you!

Are you ready for Halloween?

Halloween is on Saturday and I have got 101 things to do. Still have to get things done for the kids' classes, doublecheck that I have everything for their costumes, and actually send out some of the many Halloween cards I made this year.

Here is another vintage Halloween card I made with a Crafty Secrets Cotton Scrap. I got a little ambitious and tore a page out of an old book that I found in the garage (hope it wasn't imporant - LOL) and then burned the edges of it and my sentiment tab with one of those camping lighters. I almost burned the house down, but the card turned out alright...and so did the house *giggles*

PUBCARD_VintageHalloween_03_20_09

This second card is a more recent card made for the Halloween card challenge on the CARDs (magazine) blog. It actually was one of top cards in the gallery that week so that was pretty exciting. Kraft cardstock from Papertrey Ink, patterned papers from My Mind's Eye, Jenni Bowlin bingo card and a Prima spider. No stamping!

Happy Monday!

Papertrey Ink Blog Hop

Hello and thanks for stopping in to visit along the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop. This month's Hop is a fun one: the Holiday Hop! The idea is to showcase cards, wraps, gifts or whatever you are creating for the holidays.

This year I'm all about Holiday on the Cheap - heh. And I think with some handmade touches to jazz up the packaging you can make a run-of-the-mill aka cheap gift go from drab to fab with a lil' bit of creative effort.

I found these cute little packaged ring sets at Kohl's in the spring - way after-Christmas clearance. They're a cute enough gift, perfect for young girls. It's got the little mannequin and then down at the bottom there are 3 pretty rings.

PTI_BlogHop_Gift_10_17_09

And here's the Holiday on the Cheap part:

PTI_BlogHop_GiftPrice_10_17_09

90% off = $1.60!
Yeah, I bought all 12 of them.

So I decided to apply something I've learned from watching Food Network and Top Chef: make the packaging look smokin' hot, make the presentation something fantastic so that when they are served up a $1.60 gift, they are still on a high from the super packaging and think it's the greatest gift ever *wink*

I have 4 different package tags here which I have cut out with my Top Note die and used a To/From tag from last year's Holiday Tags Collection.

These first 2 tags feature papers from the Holiday Cheer patterned paper pack. I cut out some ornaments with a SU! punch and embellished with vintage buttons and some Perfect Match & Ribbon Couture ribbons from PTI. I also have some pretty Prima leaves and some silver holiday cord that is also from SU!

PTI_BlogHop_Tag4_10_17_09

PTI_BlogHop_Tag3_10_17_09

These next 2 tags feature papers from last year's Holiday Vintage Prints from PTI. My Christmas tree is from the Tree Trimming Trio set and I've embellished it with some Dew Droplets and some vintage buttons. More pretty Prima leaves, some vintage trim, and then more ribbons from Papertrey Ink.

PTI_BlogHop_Tag2_10_17_09

PTI_BlogHop_Tag1_10_17_09

And here is my final presentation - my $1.60 gift all wrapped up nice and pretty in a brown paper sack, nice and simple and natural (and cheap) but really allows the tag and embellishing to pop.

Thanks for stopping in this evening.
Enjoy the Hop!

Happy Harvest.

I needed a quick Halloween craft/treat for my daughter's church class. I thought I had until the end of the month, but her classes are only twice a month so I had a week to get them done (yes, there is a calendar but who reads those things anyway? - LOL). I had been stocking up on candy corn and candy pumpkins from my Walgreen's Register Rewards escapades (that's a whole 'nother blog post, but I got all the Halloween candy for free...and bunches of other stuff).

I remembered I had these cone bags that I had gotten a while back, pulled out this cute Happy Harvest stamp from Studio G (so many people these days are anti-Halloween so I thought harvest would be better received), filled the bags with candy, topped with some ribbon and a button and I was good to go. Not terribly fancy or even all that creative - but 5-year olds will love 'em!

HappyHarvestTreats_10_17_09

Be sure and come back later today (3pm MST) for my Papertrey Ink Blog Hop post. I am soooo stinkin' excited to share my project with you!

Happy Sunday!

Not me at all.

So this week the challenge on the CARDs blog was to create a simple, colorful, collagey card. I knew from the get-go that I was a goner. That is so not me. But hey, I'm a team player, I can try a challenge because you know, that which does not kill us makes us stronger and all that, right? And I could possibly learn something. I'll tell you what I learned: simple is not me. Rather, I didn't learn that, I was further reminded that simple is not me.

Honestly, these cards took me all week to make. At lunch and at night. Driving myself crazy. Sweating with anxiety. Seriously. These cards made me hate papercrafting. I didn't want to go near my craft table. I was getting depressed. Man, it's been a rough week all in the name of simple, colorful and collagey. Collagey - - isn't that a cute maybe-not-a-real-word word?

This first card features the new Cosmo Cricket Nutmeg papers and chipboard along with Papertrey Ink cardstock, button, sentiment and ink.

I like this second one better - though it's still not workin' for me it's the lesser of 2 evils. Cardstock, ribbon and button by Papertrey Ink, patterned paper from Fancy Pants' Christmas Magic line and Prima bling; berries are from my new favorite store that I am going to do a blog post on soon!

Last night we had great plans but it started raining on us. So today we have soccer, then the rescheduled fun thing, then more soccer, then the BSU game at 10 o'clock tonight because they are playing in Hawaii. Long day. Oh yeah, so the fun thing is also not me at all, but it WILL be fun just the same. We are going POTATO DIGGING! Once the fields are done you can go and glean them for free. Free potatoes. You dig? *giggles*

Have a great day!

Hand-me-downs.

I have such a hard time parting with some of my kids' clothes that they have outgrown. Some things that are of sentimental value and in good condition I've kept to pass down to their children someday. Like my husband's little cowboy vest that his grandmother made him that my son wears now; that'll be nice to pass down. Everything else we just donate to charity. Now that I'm on the craft gig I've been looking at what we call "the poor people pile" and thinking of what I could do with anything there.

Both cards today feature pieces of this little dresscoat that my daughter wore. It's really pretty and it was really spendy and sure I can give it away to charity for someone can get a smokin' deal on it, but no, I tore it up and repurposed it here.

Papertrey Ink cardstock, ribbon and ink; Pink Paislee patterned papers and a Hero Arts stamp.

Earth Love & Blessings

Sometimes I get lazy - my craft table is such a mess and the thought of cleaning it up before starting something new just does not appeal to me. And sometimes I'll make a card and I'll just love the stamp or the papers that I'm working with that I'll want to make another one with the same ingredients. So that's what I did here. I didn't want to stop playing with Cosmo Cricket's Earth Love patterned papers and coordinating chipboard, and this simple Blessings sentiment from Verve just seemed to go perfectly with the them.

Joyful - 2 of many.

I told y'all there would be more Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly with Studio G JOYFUL in it, didn't I? Well here ya' go! And how cute is that little ornament punch? That's from SU! I don't use their papers, but I do occasionally order some of their other stuff like punches, embossing folders or embellies. Anywho - I'm having a blast with these papers and chipboard - - and my JOYFUL stamp.
One word says it all {joyful}....love it!

Celebrate the magic of Christmas.

This week at Jacksonbelle Embellishments we've got a lil' sketch challenge goin' on. I liked this sketch: not too complicated. I chose to work with more fantastic Making Memories Mistletoe paper and cute coordinating felt embellie. My ribbon is from Pink Paislee and my sentiment can be found HERE.

JBE_Celebrate_10_20_09

Be sure and head over to the JBE blog and check out the sketch and see what the rest of the DT has done with it. Also in stock now - bunches of new Prima goodies great for all your holiday projects. I got the silver leaves and the gold leaves with berries. No idea what I'm going to do with them but they were luscious so I had to pick them up!

Have a great Tuesday!

For Heather's momma.

I thought I better throw in a couple of days of non-Christmas cards in case there are any Christmas haters out there who are getting turned off by all my Christmas cards *giggles* Heather asked me to make a card for her mom's birthday. All she said was that she liked purple. I think this card looks a lot better in person - it appears washed-out here. Admittedly it is a little clean for me but I hope Heather & her mom like it just the same.

Sentiment, papers, ink and ribbon are from Papertrey Ink, my lil' ice cream cone is from Fancy Pants, Heidi Swapp ghost heart and a lil' button from my stash.

For Miss Lisa.

I have trained my kids well - which I am not ashamed to say. They write thank-you cards when people send them gifts or even if a card comes and it has stickers in it - they know to write thank-yous and they actually enjoy it now which is the important thing. I have also taught them about giving to those less fortunate - we'll go shopping for stuff that the church food pantry needs and I'll have them pick out the food and they carry the boxes in to the church. I am also a birthday person. I like to send cards or presents for peoples' birthdays - and I don't really care if they remember or even know mine. Granted I used to be better about this before I had kids, but, it's still something I like to do and have really tried hard to impress upon the children that we need to do for others and do things to make others feel special; it's really not all about us.

K's church class started up again last week and when she came home she said that her teacher's birthday is in October and that she likes pink because she was wearing a pink sweater - LOL - and would I make something for her. A little short notice because the classes are only twice a month so I had a week to get this done, but fortunately (or unfortunately) I was off work a lot this week with being sick, so I had some time to get this done.

I made Miss Lisa a set of 6 cards - 2 each of what you see below. I used Papertrey Ink's Rustic Cream cardstock and patterned papers by My Little Shoebox. The first 2 feature Verve sentiments and the last and the package feature an Inkadinkado stamp. All packaged up in a Clearly Creative Card Box and tied with some Ripe Avocado ribbon and a Lemon Tart vintage button and off we go!

Christmas on parade!

This week at Jacksonbelle Embellishments we are showcasing Making Memories papers and products. I absolutely {heart} their Mistletoe Christmas line of patterned papers and embellies. I think I have made 7 Christmas cards out of this paper and I still have a smidge left that I am going to have to use up as well.

This first card features patterned paper by Making Memories, the little felt embellie is from MM too - isn't that adorable?? - my pretty ribbon is from Pink Paislee, and then topped off with some Prima Say it in Crystals.

JBE_MM1_10_12_09

My second card I had an issue with so Imma have to send it to someone who won't notice (like my brother who even when I stamp my name on the back won't realize that I actually made the card). Patterned papers by MM, the lil' felt cardinal too, my Christmas tree and sentiment are from Papertrey Ink and I've got some Dew Droplets (bigger ones) and some vintage buttons on the tree. The issue is the ribbon. The ribbon is from MM too and called vintage something and it's like this lacey sheer ribbon - as you can see, my glue stained and dried dark and icky *pouts*

JBE_MM2_10_12_09

My last card features more MM patterned papers and felt embellie, ribbon from Melissa Frances, and sentiment from Papertrey Ink. Do you save every last piece of scrap paper? I do - especially ones that have been embossed or cut out like that little piece of Dark Chocolate under the sentiment. That was just a tiny piece I had left from cutting something out with the Nesties and I thought it would be a cute lil' accent imperfect though it may be.

JBE_MM3_10_13_09

*whistles*
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Wishing you...

....peace, love & joy.

This is the card that I submitted for the CARDs (magazine) blog challenge last week. It actually ended up getting chosen as one of the featured cards which is pretty cool. The challenge was to make a card with some sort of banner. I thought I'd go outside of the box from a normal penant type banner and work hearts to go with the love in my sentiment. This is one of those cards that I have to really think about who I send it to. I can see my mom just not getting it at all and saying something like "oh, it's a winter Valentine card."

More Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly love and again with the Papertrey Ink sentiment.
It's a winning combination, I tell ya'!

Holiday wishes.

Is it just me or does this fat lil' birdie kinda look like a whale?

Tangent: When I was in college, we had this game night in the dorms, kinda like Jeopardy but I think it was called Tour the Globe or something. Anyway, geography has never been my strong suit so I have no idea how I got up there to play. But I'm doing pretty good with the questions and my floor is gonna win because I'm so smart like that. Then this last question comes. The question was something like Queen Victoria, across the pond, I don't know, and so my friend Heather tries to give me the answer and she's in the front row blowing up her face to tell me the answer is WALES. Ohhhh yes, I have the answer!! - - is it Hungary? I guess you had to be there, but it was pretty funny at the time. Someone else walked away with free Dominos pizza, I got a ghetto little globe keychain.

Speaking of Heather - - I've used here some things she sent me for my birthday: the EK Success border punch and the red crochet thread. I don't know what most people use to tie their buttons, but I love crochet thread because it's thick, it comes in bunches of colors, and you can get a big ol' roll of it for like $4. More Cosmo Cricket Jolly by Golly paper and chipboard and a lil' Papertrey Ink sentiment.

HolidayWishes_10_08_09

I hope all you cardmakers are well into your Christmas cardmaking by now!

See you tomorrow with...another Christmas card!

Joyful - 1 of many.

Let me just warn you now: I love Cosmo Cricket's Jolly by Golly paper pack, and, I love my lil' JOYFUL stamp from Studio G. I have at least 2 more cards that have this paper and this sentiment combined that you'll see in the near future, and, I still have these things on my craft table, so I'm thinkin' there's more to come *wink*

I also got the big Cosmo Cricket chipboard pack and have been having a lot of fun with that. As I am constantly thinking about what my style is, one thing I have realized is that I am definitely more of a papercrafter than I am a stamper. I love embellishments like these super Zva Creative crystals that I just found locally which I love, and chipboard and ribbons. See what I mean? Not much stamping. That's why when I do stamp, it's usually one stamp, cool sentiment, neat font - - like I have here.

PEZ_Joyful_10_08_09

Take care of yourselves, Girls. My daughter and I have been home all week sick with H1N1. I am more miserable this morning than I have been so far. Burning up all my sick time at work....and may have to dip in to my vacation time *tears* The only consolation is that it's only October and Doc says we can get it out of the way for the season. But then he said the regular flu virus hasn't hit yet so while we won't get H1N1 again this year because we'll have built up antibodies, we will get the regular flu when it comes - fun stuff....not.

See you tomorrow with another Christmas card!

Merry & Bright.

This week the Jacksonbelle Embellishments DT has got a little vellum challenge.
Vellum = challenge; yeah, I'll go with that.
I don't do well with vellum. I bought a big pack of vellum a long time ago, used it once or twice and said forget it. My challenge is with the glue showing although I have heard recently that there is some tape/glue made to use with vellum so I'll have to look in to that.

I used my new snowflake Nesties to cut out vellum snowflakes, have a little bit of glue in the middle but it's covered by the snowflake brads. My sentiment is from Imaginisce and my patterned papers are from Cosmo Cricket.

Y'all know I don't color images so I don't really keep up with all the new cute girl stamps. However - Jacksonbelle Embellishments has got the new Kraftin Kimmie stamps in stock. They are pretty cute - kinda remind me of the sister from Phineas & Ferb - LOL

Thanks for stopping in today.

Vintage Halloween.

Happy Monday!
Hope you had a fabby weekend.

Today I'm sharing some vintage Halloween cards I made with Paper Temptress papers and Crafty Secrets' Cotton Scraps. I bought several sheets of the Cotton Scraps when I first got in to cardmaking and I have to admit that I don't know how to use them well. I see people like Sharon Johnson use them often and make it look effortless, but I've had a heck of a time using them and making them look good.

Both of my cards feature a base of Antique Parchment from Paper Temptress. What I love about her parchment paper is that it's just like regular cardstock - so it's not flimsy like you would think how parchment paper is fragile. This is nice and firm with a parchment look and it's great for all your vintage projects. I've also use some Epic Black Columns paper in there - another rich and sturdy paper with score lines -columns- already done for you which saves you a lot of time when you need texture and don't have time to emboss or to score.

Hope your week starts off just super!

Studio G color challenge.

Today marks a new challenge over at the Studio G Collector's Group on PCP. This week's challenge is a color challenge using the "new" colors of Halloween: orange, black, purple and green. Pixie Stix - - does anyone over the age of 18 eat these things? I hate Pixie Stix and I think I hated them even as a child. But kids love them - and they are lightweight and colorful so I thought what the heck, let's put one on a card.
My Studio G sentiment is from Series 34...and I even used Studio G Halloween metallic pigment ink as well.

Thanks, Rebecca for participating in last week's challenge over at PCP. I know that site is way different from SCS, but I'd love to see more of y'all come over. I am not over there near as much as I am on PCP, but I pop in and out to start the challenges and whatnot.

Hope you're having a super Sunday!

Again with the Halloween - and a lil' tip.

This week over at Jacksonbelle Embellishments our product focus is on My Mind's Eye. I love MME papers - - they are really thick and always have some texture to them (that you don't have to pay extra for). So the patterned papers on these cards are both from MME.

I want you to notice that little Boo to You! popped up piece on this first card. That is from the edge of the patterned paper! The line is called Boo to You! so I just cut that out, popped it up with dimensionals and there was my sentiment. I got that idea from Danni who is just too creative for words.

This second card features a sentiment from Inkadinkado and for my paper I cut down in to the edge again where you'll find the manufacturer's info. You can see that white line between the horizontal lines and the green; the green was part of the edge. Just tryin' to make my craft dollar go a little bit farther *wink*

I'd love to hear any little crafty tips you have to share!

Hope your weekend starts off super fab.

This & That.

I suck. I totally forgot to announce the winner of the 109 Digiments from World Card Making Day.

Ashley Nguyen Newell come on down!

DM me on Twitter with your e-mail addy, girl.
Congrats!

Erin asked about my lil' tall altered tins earlier this week. Erin is also in my fat club, so I feel kinda weird admitting that they are cookie tins *giggles* You can go HERE to see what I'm talking about - but mine were smaller and on clearance at Walgreens for 50-cents (full of cookies).

Milkshake007 asked what Mexican milk jello is. And in short it's a creamy, milky yummy jello and it's super easy to make. You make Jello like the package says with the powder and the water. And then you whisk in a can of sweetened condensed milk. When it sets up the color is a lighter, milkier color than it would have been and it's thick and sweet - oooo sum good! You can do this with the sugar-free jello too (hey, cut calories anywhere you can) but it sort of gets this grainy texture that I am OK with but some people who are very particular about food textures may not like.

Kerri asked about the little girl image in this post. Those patterned papers are from My Little Shoebox and I {heart} them so.

Finally, a card that I made in May! Some older October Afternoon papers with a Verve sentiment.

So happy it's Friday!
