So last week I shared with you the Valentine pillowboxes that I made for my son's class. Today I'm sharing with you the ones I made for my daughter's class. I had to make 2 things for each class - one was the Valentines that the kids were handing out to their classmates and then these pillowboxes are what I am taking to the party to hand out. A lot of work, but my kids really love that I do all this for them, and seeing their proud & happy lil' faces when they are handing things out at school makes it all worth it.
So again I am using these great acetate pillowboxes that I picked up from Embellish It Online. I actually think they are out of these right now, but you can always e-mail Miss Barb and ask her when they'll be back in stock, or to let you know or something like that.
I started out by punching some hearts out of this great Pink Paislee paper. I went wild when Lindsey at Jacksonbelle Embellishments got this in stock back in December and I bought tons of the single sheets, the brads and the glittered chipboard letters. I didn't know what I was going to do with it, but I had to have all of it that I could get my hands on.
I wanted to add a little extra something to the heart, so I did a quick zig-zag stitch on each one...one by one...
After I was finished stitching, I had this cute little pile of hearts....with thread hanging from each side. I thought about just leaving them as-is, but thought it might look too sloppy.
So I trimmed them all nice and clean with my handy-dandy Martha Stewart scissors. I have 2 of these that I picked up at Michael's with the coupon - I love these scissors. I use one pair for dry cutting and the other pair if there is the potential to get glue on it - one is all gunky and ugly and the other is still so pretty.
Then I got my piles all set to work a little assembly line.
Here's the treat box before embellishing: a Valentine notepad, a little heart bracelet (kindergarten is probably the last time a little boy would wear one of these), some plastic heart confetti - all from Oriental Trading - and some SweetTarts...yes, the Halloween SweetTarts that I got in the big bag for 40-cents *wink*
I tied a piece of crochet thread around the patterned paper - I use my crochet thread for everything....especially to thread my buttons. And then I stuck the chipboard letter to the heart and then added some dimensional adhesive to the back of the heart. A note on self-adhesive things like chipboard: I add a little bit of Tombow Mono Multi every time I use chipboard, just for a little insurance. I have a card in the current issue of CARDs magazine and I used some self-adhesive chipboard letters on it. When I saw the card in the magazine I thought something looked different. So I compared it to the picture that I had submitted and sure enough, the letters were way different - they must have fallen off between my house, mailing and then the photographer's handling. I have to admit - I like the way they have the letters better - LOL
I was going to do them all with the black chipboard letters, but just my luck, there were 5 C names in the class and even though I had 2 packs of the letters, there were only 4 Cs total. So I did about half and half - can't have just one kid with a different colored letter, you know.
We've got about a week and a half left, girls.
There's still time to make a little something for them (or for you) to hand out.
Have a sweet day!

LOL I'm going with the "not" on making something this year. I bought instead. As the kids get older they seem less interested in the packaging, which is sad :( So I'm doing Fun Dip! ha!
Great packaging though. Love pillow boxes! Hey what machine do you use to sew? A reg machine or one of those janome?
Love the pillow boxes.
What a great idea! I love it, and I'm sure the class will too! I need to finish mine up!!!
You're such a great mama! I wish I had the energy to do all this, and I only have 1 little one with 9 classmates. LOL :)
Awesome boxes!!
You are awesome. Wow! I can't believe all the little details you pay attention to. The stitching on the hearts is so cool.
I want to be in Kindergarten! The pillow boxes you did for both classes are wonderful. And you're right - you can't just have one letter that's a different color. :D
Oh my gosh! These are so cute! You CLEARLY like to torture yourself. My kids will be lucky if they get those boxed Valentine's from the store.
What a fabulously adorable idea! Love those stitched hearts.
