Need help from you crafty girls.

(this is my second post today - scroll down for cards)

I mentioned before that my cousin's son has moved up here to live with my aunt & uncle. They are kinda....um...old? And he's a 13 yr. old kid. So while they can provide food and shelter for him, they can't really help out with other stuff. He asked me last night if we could help him with a project for school. He's got to make a golf course. Like make one...3D kind. My aunt bought this big ol' piece of styrofoam board or something - but I got nuthin'. Was thinking of having him hollow out a path with a spoon....and maybe cover the whole thing with ModgePodge and then cover that with grass...?

Need ideas on how to execute this little project - cheap....easy....but still nice/cute.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Girl! My fist thought was maybe doing one on a small scale so that he could focus on the details...

Maybe use some sculpty to form the curves of the golf course. Then you can use a little bit of astroturf or felt for grass. You can add real sand, and liquid glass/glossy accents colored with a little blue for the ponds.

Toothpicks painted white for the flags?

There are craft stores that carry items to make scale models, they might have some stuff there too.

Hope this helps!

I was thinkin the same as Tiff as for the grass...felt would work and they have it at WalMart in sheets cheap!! My daughter had to make ALL KINDS of stuff when she was in high school like that...small scaled houses...landscapes and the like! Just gotta let your creativity run wild...matchboxes make great little cars or golfcarts..cut wheels from cereal boxes...acetate windsheild. The toothpicks make great poles and also great for support in buildings! I may sound crazy but this makes me miss the high school days with her!! Art and creativity makes for great times together!! Thank God I still got my little niece to "PLAY" with!! LOL I have created a lil scrapping monster in her!! LOL Her mom is ready to kill me!! LOL
Hope this helped some...Have fun!!

I was thinking some Christmas village stuff for the trees (people are always giving it away on Freecycle) and shredded paper for the grass (the kind that 4-way shreds), we always seem to have tons of it. And don't forget more styrofoam formed before putting on the grass for the hills. You might even find some golf-related items in a cake shop. Mesh vegetable netting for the "nets" on the outskirts of the course with dowels painted to hold them up. Peas could be painted to be golf balls, unless that's not to scale, then tapioca (or bobo). Good luck and have fun!

I was thinking clay or Play-doh for the grass and water, real sand from any craft store, straws or toothpicks for flags, etc. I think everyone pretty much covered it, but call me if you need more.

Well, I'm glad you've already got some tips. Because I've got nothing! I suck at stuff like that. Kind of dread the day my kids have to do this kind of project :(
Let us know how it goes.
